Astrology is the study of the influence that planets and stars have on human lives. The position of the Sun, stars, moon and planets at the time of person's birth is said to shape their personality, affect their romantic relationships and predict their economic fortunes, among other divinations.

There are different types of Astrology such as Western Astrology, Chinese Astrology and my personal favourite Vedic Astrology or Jyotish. Vedic astrology is also called Hindu astrology or Indian astrology and Ayurvedic Astrology. It has a direct correlation with Ashtanga Yoga, Ayurveda, and goes back thousands of years where it was first recorded in the ancient Indian scriptures known as Rig Veda. Some say it is over 5000 years old. It uses most exact calculations based on sidereal sign to calculate your Rising Sign and positions of all planets at the time of your birth. 

Most of us are more aware of the Western Astrology based on Tropical Sign estimations through horoscopes at the back of magazines. If you are reading this, you probably heard something of Astrology already and very likely even know your Sun Sign, the most famous Zodiac sign. Most of us read our monthly horoscopes based on our Sun sign and even contemplated on compatability with friends, family members, and love interests.  What is the Sun Sign? The Sun Sign is based on the zodiac sign that the sun occupied on your birthday month. This however is a simplistic view of astrology.

Based on your date of birth, time of birth and place of birth, a Vedic Astrologer generates your Birth Chart aka Vedic Natal Chart and then thoroughly analyses using his or her knowledge and experience. This is very much a science and it takes more than a year of intense study to be able to do a simple reading of one's Natal Chart. For an in-depth reading one has to study for 5 years in a traditional Vedic Parampara. Parampara ( Sanskrit: परम्परा, paramparā) means a succession of teachers and disciples in traditional Vedic culture and Indian religions such as Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism and Buddhism. It is also known as guru-shishya tradition ("succession from Guru to disciple").

It can also be used as a tool to gain more insight into areas where you can succeed, and karmic obligations. Many think of astrology as a a predictive tool. Indeed it does give insight into the universe promise, however it is up to you to fulfil it. No one, even Vedic sages 5000 years ago, ever said that Free Will does not matter.
